FYI: Download-A-Day

I've been getting a lot of the same question in the past few hours, so I just thought I'd post the answer here for everyone to see!

If you tried downloading anything from the newsletter I sent early Friday morning and got an error message, here's why that happened:

To put it simply, the links in that newsletter were shared with non-subscribers. I won't get into it too much, but from what I can see it was shared several times (I can't see who shared or where it went though). One link alone had almost 1,500 unique clicks (which is almost double the # of newsletter subscribers on the list).

Sharing those links caused an unusually high amount of traffic, so Dropbox disabled them. If you tried to download after they were suspended, you would've gotten an error message. I am willing to work with whoever still needs links, provided that you opened the email and tried to download within that 24 hour time frame. You can find details on how to do that below.

This doesn't make me mad or angry really, it's more frustrating and sad. I wanted to do a mass give back event in the newsletter as a way of saying thank you. The schedule with this one has been pretty all over the place and I wanted to repay the group of you who've been patiently waiting. I won't stop doing Download-A-Day events, but this will change the way I do them. We'll still do a traditional give back day (one part) once the full kit has been posted, but after that I'm going to take some time to re-evaluate. It may be a while before we do another one of these, but don't worry -- it's still going to happen!

That said, if you received the email, tried downloading and got an error message, please send me an email (labellevie.designs.hw@gmail.com) with the address you signed up for the newsletter with. I can go in and check the details of that campaign. If you initially opened the email and tried to download before the 24 hour window was up, I'll happily send you whatever links you want/need.

If you didn't open the email, or didn't try to download within the first 24 hours, unfortunately I can't and won't send  you anything. I hate how crass that sounds, but the validity window was there for a reason. This was a limited time offer and had a time frame that I mentioned several times in a few different places. Please don't send me an email if you know you didn't open it in time.

This is what that 24 hour window was based on. Keep in mind that this is Central Standard Time in the United States. Emails should have been opened/downloads should have been attempted before 1:04am CST on March 14, 2015. If you're in a different timezone and are unsure, send me an email. Mailchimp converts your time automatically to mine, so I'll be able to tell!

I also want to take the time to apologize to those of you who opened the email on time and encountered those error messages. I'm going to do my best to try to get you the links you need!

  4. This was really low! I've gotten the downloads from the blog, so did not download any from the newsletter links. (I'm sure you would have let us know if the new downloads differed from the originals.) I just can't imagine anyone such low morals as to share the links. Designing the pieces that are include in a kit is very time intensive and it takes a lot of creativity and skill on the part of the designer. That's a big investment in a 'free' product! Bless your heart, you are appreciated by myself and many of your other faithful followers. Hugs!

    1. Connie, it happens more than you'd think :(

Thank you for the sweet comment though! Comments like yours (and the ones above) are why I'm still set on doing this. Yes, it sucks, but the good always outweighs the bad :)

  5. Hi There...

I Just Wanted To Say That Whole Thing About The Sharing Really Stinks But As A Long Time Newsletter Subscriber...I Never Received The First Round Of E-Mails With The Downloads Enclosed...But To Be Fair,I Understand What Happened...That Being Said,I Checked My E-Mail & I Never Received The Second Round Of E-Mails,Either But Noticed That It Was There This Evening(Mar.15)...But Of Course The Downloads Didn't Work...So,I Guess I'm Out Of Luck...In Both Regards...I Guess,There Are Always Gonna Be People Who Miss Out On Things For Computer Glitches & I Always Seem To Be On The Receiving End Of These Things...Good Thing I Only Missed Day 1,Which Was An Alpha...There Are Always People Who Miss Out When People Do These Things...What Can I Say???...Disappointed...But That's The Way Things Go,I Guess...RJ

  6. Oh dear! Such sad news. Especially when you work so hard on something and you give it away as a gift, only for it to be abused. Trust me when I say that I KNOW it's a lot of hard work (I literaly take hours just making my own alphabet, lol!) It would have been nice if people were referred to the NL sign-up so they can be a part of future events. I'm happy to hear that this has not made you bitter :) You have a true loving heart <3 Thank you so much for all your efforts and in giving back to your customers :)

  9. I'm so sorry! I didn't download anything from the email because I already had the downloads from the blog. I didn't share any links, but instead encouraged friends to subscribe to the newsletter (prior to the links being sent). I'm sorry that things have gotten all messed up!
